Brandon Transit is excited to announce that Transit On-Demand is coming to a bus stop near you! This one-year pilot project will improve the connectivity of our entire city and will provide a more convenient option for passengers. It will also reduce wait times, expand the Transit coverage across the city, and improve service during off peak hours.

Transit On-Demand is public transit without a fixed route or schedule. Rides can be booked through the Blaise Transit App*or online at ride.blaisetransit.com. Passengers will need to plan their trip in advance, at least 30 minutes before their departure time. Trips can be booked up to seven days in advance. Once booked, the bus will pick up and drop off at pre-set locations throughout the city. 

Starting November 1, 2021, Transit On-Demand will run the following times: 

  • Monday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to midnight 

Blaise’s on-demand transit technology automatically takes the shortest possible route to get residents where they need to be. Buses will travel according to the stops requested by customers when making their reservation. This transit service will be stop-to-stop, meaning you must travel to the bus stop to catch your bus.

You will need to plan your trip in advance, at least 30 minutes before your departure time. Trips can be booked up to seven days in advance. You’ll have to carefully follow the instructions provided to you, as your usual stop may not be the one chosen by the algorithm for a given reservation. When creating a profile, you can indicate if you have reduced mobility, and the system will choose the closest possible stop. During on-demand hours you won’t be able to simply show up at a bus stop and board a bus.

In addition to the on-demand service, virtual stops will be added on the Blaise app. Virtual stops will not have physical signs posted in those locations. Transit On-Demand will also be extended into areas that have not been serviced by transit such as West McDonald Avenue, on the North hill, in the South end, as well as in the Brookwood and Waverly Park areas. This type of service allows for easier expansion into new future development areas utilizing virtual stops. 

Conventional Transit will continue to run fixed routes during the following times:

  • Monday to Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 

Brandon Access Transit service will not be changed due to the on demand service.

Blaise Transit App

Blaise allows you to quickly and easily create on-demand bus trips to get you where you need to go!  Simply enter:

  • Your origin (where you are walking from)
  • Your destination (where you are walking to)
  • The desired time of arrival or departure of your trip

Blaise will create a customized bus trip to get you where you need to be. Once we confirm your trip, you can use the app to check your basic trip details (Origin, Destination, and approximate times). 30 minutes before your trip the exact time you need to leave to walk to the bus stop and which bus stop to go to is updated.

Service Information 

What are the operating hours of Transit On-Demand? 

Starting November 1, 2021, Transit On-Demand runs Monday through Saturday from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.  

If you request a ride scheduled to begin or end outside this timeframe, the system will reject your trip. 

Where does Transit On-Demand operate?  

The service operates within the City of Brandon. You can view the operating zone on the Blaise Transit app when you request a ride. 

How much does Transit On-Demand cost?  

The fare is the same as conventional transit. For a list of all the fare prices, visit brandontransit.ca/transit-fares/fare-prices.

What kind of vehicles are being used? 

Brandon will be using the same regular-size buses.  

Booking a ride 

How do I book a ride with Transit On-Demand?  

First, download the Blaise Transit app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. Second, create an account or log in to your existing account. Once logged in, enter your Origin and Destination in the To and From fields, select a departure or arrival time, and get moving! 

How far in advance can I book a ride?  

You can book a ride between 7 days and 30 minutes before the earliest departure time of your trip. If you booked your trip based on the arrival time, the system would calculate the earliest departure, and you must enter the trip 30 minutes before that. 

For example, if you wish to arrive at your destination by 9 am, and your trip would normally take 15 minutes from your origin to your destination, your earliest departure time will be set to 8:45 am. Therefore, your trip request must be entered by 8:15 am. If you book a trip outside of this timeframe, the system will reject your trip.

Can I request a ride if I don’t have a smartphone?  

Yes. You can either book your trip online on the Blaise Transit web app or call Brandon Transit at 204-729-2300Provide your contact information and trip details. Brandon Transit will provide you with a detailed trip itinerary within 2 minutes. 

Can I edit or cancel my booking?  

Once you have submitted a trip, you cannot edit the trip. However, you can cancel your trip up to 30 minutes before your departure time and submit a new one. 

How do I know when the vehicle will come?  

After you submit your trip and it is accepted, you will be able to view your complete trip itinerary up to between 30 and 15 minutes before your trip begins. It is visible in Upcoming Trips. This itinerary includes the time you must leave your origin when you are picked up when you will be dropped off and reach your destination. 

I have a disability or have reduced mobility. Can I request a ride?  

Yes. Passengers with reduced mobility should select “Has reduced mobility” on your Sign-Up Form. The system will know to send you to your closest bus stop instead of the most optimal one. It will also drop you off at the bus stop closest to your destination. 

Can I book more than one passenger?  

Yes. When entering the required information for your ride, press the green plus sign next to Passenger, select the passenger type, and click create a passenger. You can add up to ten passengers per trip.  

Can I quit the Blaise Transit app before and/or during the ride?  

Yes. Your information will be saved, and your trip will not be lost. 

What do I do if my trip is rejected?  

Ensure your trip is planned within operating hours, within the on-demand operating zone. Also, ensure that it is booked no earlier than 7 days in advance and no later than 30 minutes before your trip is scheduled to begin. If it is within all three, the service may have too many trips to serve. If this is the case, edit your trip details, submit again, exit the app, and re-enter your information.

How long does it take to Accept or Reject a request?  

After submitting your request, your trip will either be Accepted or Rejected within 90 seconds. However, this is subject to change. Note: You will receive your trip details (your detailed itinerary) 30 minutes before your trip. 

When will I know to get out of the vehicle?  

You will receive a notification in the app (and outside the app if you are not on the Blaise Transit app) when your stop is next. If you’re unsure about your drop-off location, ask the driver to verify your name on the list of passengers disembarking at a stop. This information will be available on their tablet. 

What happens if I’m late for my ride?  

Brandon Transit cannot guarantee that your vehicle driver will wait for you if you are late. You will be able to see the vehicle's location on the Blaise Transit app once you press begin trip. 

What happens if I run into technical issues?  

If you run into technical issues with the Blaise app, exit, restart, delete, and re-download the app. If this doesn't work or if the issue is related to reduced mobility signup or any practical questions, contact Brandon Transit at 204-729-2300.

I want my trip to go outside the City of Brandon. Is that possible?  

No. You may only book trips within the City of Brandon. If you request a trip for an address outside the operating zone, it will be rejected.

Transit On-demand

What is Transit On-Demand?  

On-demand transit is public transit without a fixed vehicle route or schedule. Instead, passengers request trips using their smartphones or by calling the City of Brandon. A vehicle is dispatched to serve their request. This transit service will be stop-to-stop, meaning you must travel to the bus stop to catch your bus. 

I’ve never used on-demand transit before. How do I know the bus will come?  

Rest assured: your ride will come. The Blaise Transit app provides you with a detailed itinerary of when your vehicle will come and when you will arrive at your destination. Once you press the Begin Trip button in the Blaise Transit app, you will be able to see your vehicle moving in real-time and when it will arrive. You will also receive notification about when to leave your origin and destination and when your vehicle is 1 minute away. Unfortunately, if you do not have a smartphone, you will not have access to these tools. However, Brandon Transit will provide you with a detailed itinerary and contact you should your trip details change.
